I’m going to be honest, I’m surprised by how much I’m enjoying the Twisted Metal TV show. I’m not a huge fan of anime, and the first episode had some pacing issues, but it gets better as it progresses. I’m intrigued to see where it goes, and I’m a big fan of some of the actors they’ve brought on board. Samoa Joe, Will Arnett, and Ashley Judd are just a few stars who are lending their voices, and the VFX team seems to be doing an amazing job with the cars.
Unfortunately, a new Twisted Metal game didn’t accompany the show’s launch, and that’s a missed opportunity. There’s a lot of excitement around the show from the PlayStation community, and a new game would be a great way to capitalize on that, but Sony has been oddly quiet. We’re still waiting for a new Twisted Metal, but some are suggesting it’s because they were trying to release something and it didn’t work out.
“Hey guys, I actually worked on the show (on the other side of the camera) and was curious if anyone else here is a fan of the games growing up,” one user alludes. “I know, I know, the game came out on the PS3, but I’m just curious to know if the VFX team and artists on the show played it.”
That person isn’t alone. There are a lot of people who are excited about the show’s inclusion of actors like Samoa Joe and Will Arnett, but a few mention wanting a new Twisted Metal game. Some joke about Rob Zombie playing every few songs, but others suggest Sony might have tried to release a new game but it didn’t pan out.
“I’d love a new installment,” one user says. “I enjoyed the first Black on the PS2, and I know BMX XXX was a flop, but I’d love a new one.”
“I’d rather see a new Twisted Metal than another Ratchet & Clank,” another replies. “The games just keep getting better, and in my opinion, the original still looks the best.”
Others mention that they’re happy they can play the classics on PlayStation Plus, but a few joke that their mains are Sweet Tooth. Others suggest that Sony might be testing the waters, as games do take longer to make than TV shows, but I’m not sure that’s a good excuse.
“I get that games take longer to make than TV shows, but Sony has a track record of missing opportunities with IPs that are ripe for a new game,” one user remarks. “I’m not saying every game has to be a new Ratchet & Clank or Sly Cooper, but a new Twisted Metal would be cool.”
Another mentions how the previous Twisted Metal game on the PS3 flopped, which I agree is a valid point. Still, I’m holding out hope that the show will be so successful that there will be a new installment to the franchise.
