Insomniac is working on an unannounced triple-A game

Insomniac is working on an unannounced triple-A game, and one fan theory thinks it might be a Venom spin-off. With the Spider-Man PS4 date set and the Wolverine PS4 game release date coming soon, it might be a while before we see more from the Rat-Man in the superhero game. However, a tweet from the Venom actor and some job listings hint at what’s next for Insomniac.

When Spider-Man 2 launches in 2023, Wolverine will follow in Fall 2024. That leaves a big gap between the two superhero games, and it could be a while until we see more of the Rat-Man in the Marvel games. But a theory based on Venom actor Tony Todd’s tweet and some job listings at Insomniac suggests that a Venom spin-off is coming.

Of course, this comes after Insomniac’s project director Erin Eberhardt confirmed the development of a third game – but it’s unclear whether this is Spider-Man 3 or a new IP. However, a job listing and Eberhardt’s background suggest that the project is a multiplayer game, not a Venom spin-off.

According to a now-deleted job listing on Stack Overflow, Insomniac is looking for a “project manager to lead a new IP.” The listing specified that the new IP is multiplayer, ruling out a number of possibilities for the game’s theme.

While it’s possible that Eberhardt’s game and the multiplayer job listing are connected, there’s no official confirmation yet. Regardless, the idea of playing as Venom either as a snippet in Spider-Man 2 or in his own standalone game is enough to get any Marvel fan excited.
