Xbox's New UI Update: Backlash from Players

Xbox’s new UI update is receiving backlash from players due to a lack of customization options and the presence of forced “ads” and limits on groups, resulting in a less user-friendly home page that many feel is cluttered and less visually appealing than the previous design.

Many players on the Xbox subreddits are expressing anger and frustration over the changes, which many feel ignore the feedback provided by the community during the Insiders program.

The new update, which rolled out on April 30, introduces a number of new features, such as a refreshed look and feel, a more detailed Achievements page, and an improved search function. However, players are primarily focusing on the negatives, with the overwhelming presence of Game Pass tabs on the new home page being the most common point of contention.

“I upgraded to the new dashboard and this is what I see,” one Redditor says, adding an image that highlights how every tab on the dashboard is an advertisement for one of Microsoft’s subscription services, including Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold. “I’m not joking. There’s literally no space for my games. I’m not even exaggerating.”

Other players echo this sentiment, with many expressing their dissatisfaction and disappointment with the limited number of groups allowed in the new UI. In the current update, players are only allowed to have 12 groups, compared to the previous 40. While the aesthetic improvements of the update are acknowledged, the overwhelming presence of Game Pass tabs has overshadowed any positive aspects.

“Insiders have been voicing their concerns about the lack of customization for almost a year,” another Redditor says. “Xbox seems to think that Insiders aren’t ‘real players’ and therefore don’t warrant any significant changes. Now that it’s live, it’s unlikely that any significant changes will be made, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.”

While some players have expressed hope that the new update will introduce new features that negate the negative aspects of the update, it is unlikely that any changes will be made to customization options or the limited number of groups. Players will have to adapt to the new UI for the time being, as no immediate solutions are expected.
