Cyberpunk 2077: A Game Worth Playing
Despite the numerous bugs, performance issues, and negative player feedback that plagued Cyberpunk 2077 upon its release, CD Projekt Red’s vice president of communication argues that it wasn’t quite the “disaster” it’s been made out to be. In fact, she says, it was actually “better than received.”
“It’s funny how the launch of a game can become a Rorschach test,” Megan Fox writes in a blog post. “What one person considers a ‘failure,’ another person considers ‘good enough,’ and a third person considers ‘not such a bad game.’”
Fox acknowledges that there were issues that needed to be addressed, namely all of the reported bugs and glitches that plagued the shooter upon release. She says that CDPR is “actively fixing those issues as fast as we can,” through updates and patches.
“We know there were some problems and we know there are things we need to improve,” she says. “But it’s important to look beyond the negativity and appreciate the hard work and dedication that went into creating this game.”
Despite the rocky start, CDPR says Cyberpunk 2077 managed to sell millions of copies and has even garnered itself a “dedicated fan base.”
“Despite the negativity surrounding the game, Cyberpunk 2077 is a game worth playing,” Fox says. “We hear you, we know there are issues that need to be fixed, and we are working hard to get there.”
Despite the numerous issues and criticisms, CDPR has promised free DLCs and a next-gen upgrade to the game, further demonstrating its commitment to the players.
“We all know that some of the things that happened during Cyberpunk’s launch were not in line with our standards,” Fox says. “We acknowledge that we made mistakes and we are sorry for that. We will strive to do better in the future, I promise.”
Despite the controversies and setbacks, the company remains hopeful that the continued updates and improvements will ultimately result in a positive and satisfying gaming experience.
“The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 was not as bad as it was portrayed,” Fox concludes. “It was actually [better] than received. We are committed to delivering high-quality games. We will continue to learn from our experiences.”
