Cyberpunk 2077 Overhaul: Revamping Gameplay Systems and Introducing New Districts
The highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 has received a major update from CD Projekt Red, addressing various shortcomings and introducing significant changes to enhance the gameplay experience. One of the notable additions is the inclusion of a new district, Cop Market, in the upcoming expansion. We had the opportunity to delve into Cyberpunk Nights, providing a detailed overview of the game's revamped mechanics, as well as a sneak peek at the exciting features awaiting players in the Cop Market district.
In our comprehensive review of Cyberpunk 2077, we highlighted areas such as character building and gear mechanics that needed improvement. CD Projekt Red acknowledges this feedback and has undertaken substantial revisions to enhance these aspects.
During our Cyberpunk Nights walkthrough, we witnessed notable enhancements to enemy AI in the game's third district, Mamoru-Kahara. From adjustments to alert levels to a wider range of law enforcement personnel, players can expect a more dynamic and challenging gameplay experience.
While the update does not mention changes to enemy archetypes, which players have found lackluster in terms of diversity, CD Projekt Red shares detailed improvements in other gameplay elements.
Revamped Character Building and Gear:
The upcoming expansion will introduce significant updates to character building and gear systems. Quest designer Jakub Kutnowski explains, "We're essentially starting from scratch. We received feedback that the [character] skill trees and gear mechanics were flawed." To demonstrate the extent of the improvement, Kutnowski shared a screenshot on Reddit, showcasing the current skill trees compared to the upcoming version 1.0.0.7. The image reveals a linear agility perk tree with underwhelming progression bonuses.
The overhaul extends beyond character progression. Kutnowski elaborates, "We want to create a more immersive progression experience. This includes improved loot drops, enhanced enemy archetypes, and more engaging interactions with law enforcement NPCs and civilians." Additionally, CD Projekt Red plans to elevate the visual quality of unique weapons, aligning them with the standards of a true RPG gear system. The level-adjusted number system, which utilizes ratings and buffs to represent gear improvements, will also be completely reworked.
With the Cyberpunk Nights walkthrough and Kutnowski's insights, CD Projekt Red aims to align the RPG mechanics with the exceptional quality of the game's quests and storytelling. The upcoming release of Cyberpunk 2077 version 1.0.0.8 showcases the team's commitment to delivering an immersive and satisfying gameplay experience.
