A guide to beating the Giant Gadon in Dave The Diver and reaching the next chapter
Need help beating the Giant Gadon? This unique boss appears during chapter five in Dave The Diver. Fighting the Gadon isn’t about defeating it using weapons, instead, the battle is about escaping it. It’s a chase sequence, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s an easy task.
To even reach the boss, you need to obtain a special key from the Abandoned Cave. After that, you can travel to the Glacier Passage, which is actually divided into different rooms with mirror reflection and rotating puzzles. That’s where the fun begins. Here’s what you need to know about this boss fight in Dave The Diver.
How to beat the Giant Gadon in Dave The Diver
To enter the Glacier Passage, you need to find the key in the Abandoned Cave. After that, head to the north area of the map to reach the cave. Don’t head inside just yet, though, as you need to get the Crowbar from Cobra.
Once you have both the key and the Crowbar, you can go inside the Abandoned Cave. There are plenty of puzzles to solve here, but they’re all pretty straightforward. Just take your time with the rotating platforms and mirrors.
Eventually, you’ll reach a dark room where a Divine Fruit hangs. Hitting the fruit will light up the room and reveal the Gadon, initiating the chase.
The first part of the battle is all about swimming away from the Gadon. You’ll be dodging randomly appearing icicles and pressing the right button to move forward. The Gadon will occasionally charge up a hand to grab you, but focusing on its hand during the charge will help in dodging.
After a stomp from the boss, smaller icicles will fall in front of you in two waves. The first wave can be dodged by going to the bottom of the field, while the second wave requires avoiding ice structures that will reduce your oxygen if hit.
The boss will then charge up an attack. A Divine Fruit will appear. Swim up to reach the fruit. A QTE will appear. Hit the fruit to slow down the boss.
After this scene, you’ll reach a dead end. Another path will open with a cutscene.
Now, you’re swimming downward, dodging larger ice structures by staying in the middle and moving slightly to the left or right when necessary.
Eventually, you’ll start swimming to the right again, facing even larger ice structures that require careful attention to avoid getting hit.
If you run out of oxygen or get caught by the Gadon, you’ll start from the last checkpoint. This can be quite frustrating given how many times you’ll need to repeat the chase, so make sure to learn its patterns to avoid getting hit.
Eventually, you’ll reach the Glacial Area. Suwam will save you and defeat the Gadon. Unlike some other bosses in the game, you don’t get meat for defeating the Gadon.
