Disney Lorcana Item Cards

The Disney Lorcana item cards are a crucial part of gameplay in the Disney game. Item cards are one of the three main card types, alongside characters and actions. We’ve previously looked at the various types of Disney Lorcana characters you can play during a game, as well as the different types of action cards, so now it’s time to focus on items.

These form a separate category of cards in the Disney game and add another layer of strategy to the gameplay. Card types, such as characters, actions, and items, are just one aspect of deck building in Disney Lorcana. You also need to consider the ink cost associated with playing each card, and which cards you can add to your deck based on the card type and color you’ve selected.

What are Item Cards in Disney Lorcana?

Item cards are just one type of card in Disney Lorcana, and these add various effects, from manual activation to passive abilities. Unlike characters, items can’t be challenged and don’t attack opponents. Instead, you can only play an item card when it meets the criteria of being banished or returned to your hand. Certain cards can synergize well with item cards, such as Ariel, Whoseit Collector, Belle, Inventive Engineer, and Maurice, World-Famous Inventor.

You play item cards by paying the ink cost specified on the card. As a general rule, items have the lowest average ink cost, making decks focused on them viable, especially in the sapphire ink color. You can only activate an item on your turn, and certain cards can let you use items multiple times in a turn.

Item cards can be:

  • Equipped to characters to enhance their abilities
  • Activated to provide a one-time effect
  • Passively affecting the game state
  • Used strategically to gain an advantage

Due to the nature of item cards, they can be tricky to remove. You can challenge a character card to defeat the character and send the item to the discard pile. However, there are limited cards that specifically deal with items. The First Chapter expansion includes only two cards for banishing items: Break and Beast, Hardheaded. Although you can use Maurice, World-Famous Inventor to get around this, there are other cards that punish you for playing him.

As a result, item decks remain powerful and difficult to break through in Lorcana. You need to strategize accordingly if you encounter an item deck in the multiplayer game. We’ve also got a rundown of all the Lorcana codes available for you to unlock cards in the game.
