Dungeon of the Endless

The unique Tower Defense/Roguelike hybrid from Amplitude Studios, Dungeon of the Endless, is available for free on Steam right now. If you haven’t played this fun, offbeat gem yet, this is a great chance to get in on all the fun. While Dungeon of the Endless 2 is on the way, the original still holds up brilliantly all these years later, and the fact that you can get it for free on Steam until July 27 is just icing on the cake.

About the Game

Originally released in 2014, Dungeon of the Endless has slowly gained a cult following over the years. Its unique blend of roguelike elements and strategy gameplay has seen it stand out from the crowd in a genre known for its high level of saturation.

In Dungeon of the Endless, you take control of a group of survivors as you attempt to navigate a dungeon that is literally endless. Your job is to defend against waves of enemies while strategically placing towers in each room in order to put up the best defense possible.

Progression is fantastic, as you get a real sense of accomplishment as you upgrade your gear, unlock new recruits, and unlock more powerful defensive towers between each floor. The rooms are randomly generated, so each playthrough feels different, and the game’s unique pace makes it feel like a more action-oriented roguelike despite the slower pace of planning that comes with strategic tower defense games.

Despite being a few years old now, Dungeon of the Endless continues to be highly recommended, and it’s certainly easy to see why. The game has seen some success on platforms like PS4 and Nintendo Switch, and the fact that it’s free on Steam until July 27 only makes it that much easier to give it a try.

If you like Dungeon of the Endless, you should try some of the other best roguelike games, as they generally share similar elements that have helped this game stand out. You can also look forward to the sequel, Endless Dungeon, which takes a more conventional approach as an action roguelike.
