Fallout Amazon series in development
A Fallout TV show is in development at Amazon Studios, bringing one of the most popular video game franchises to the small screen with a star-studded cast and a story that promises to expand the retro-futuristic universe.
While it’s been rumoured for a while now, the news comes straight from Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke, who confirms that the series is in the works and gives us a few more details about what we can expect from the Fallout TV show.
“We’re excited to announce that Amazon Studios is developing a subversive, dark, authentic and quality series based on Fallout.” Salke says. “This will be a series with the heart and soul of the franchise and we’re thrilled to be working with Bethesda to bring their incredible game world to life.”
No release date has been announced as of yet, but Salke says we can expect to see the show on Amazon Prime Video. While it will follow an original story within the Fallout universe, she says fans can expect to see “familiar elements,” such as Vault-Tec Vaults and all of the series’ “mutated creatures.”
The news comes after a set of leaked photos from the Fallout TV series started to circulate online. The images show the iconic scenery of the Fallout games, from ruined buildings to the desolate wasteland that fans of the series will recognise. If nothing else, this news is exciting to hear just for the behind-the-scenes footage alone.
We don’t know much about the show just yet, but Salke notes that it’s being produced by Kilter Films – the same production company that produced Westworld. Given that show’s success, and the involvement of creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy (who also serve as executive producers on Westworld), there is plenty to be excited about here.
Notably, Nolan is also an executive producer on another upcoming video game adaptation – Netflix’s The Witcher, which is scheduled to release next year. There are plenty of incredible TV shows to choose from these days, but the combination of a talented production team and a beloved franchise means this project is one to watch.
