A Mario style pipe in the middle of London
A Mario style pipe in the middle of London has been the subject of both internet and Nintendo fan attention, as the internet tries to work out what the purpose of the artwork is, and whether it will be removed by the Japanese gaming giant.
The artwork, which appears to be a pipe from the Mushroom Kingdom, complete with leading question mark, and a suspicious looking Goomba, has been spotted in Camden, and has sparked debate about its fate, with some expressing desire for it to be available as bedroom wallpaper.
The artwork, which bears resemblance to the Mario Bros. games, and clearly takes inspiration from them, has been placed in the middle of Camden, London, and has inspired a range of reactions from those who have seen it. The pipe artwork apparently raises questions about the ethics of Mario’s actions, and some have suggested that the artwork would make a good addition to Pokémon Go due to the game’s recent integration of mushroom shaped Pokéstops.
Others have expressed concerns about whether Mario will actually hit his target, or whether the Goomba is just surprised by his sudden appearance, while a witty comment suggests that the artwork was actually always a pipe dream. The Goomba’s expression has certainly drawn a lot of attention, while those who have seen it have expressed a desire for a star power-up.
Those who have seen the artwork have expressed a lot of positive reactions, with it being described as “amazing” and a “powerful message,” while other internet users have expressed curiosity about the origin of the mushroom, and concern about Nintendo’s reaction to it.
“Nintendo will probably sue,” one user writes, with another saying, “I’m sure Nintendo will immediately send a cease and desist letter to the artist.” Another person says “I would pay money to buy this from the artist,” while another adds, “That would be a great present, haha.”
Others have made humorous comments about the game’s surreal elements, and speculation about how Nintendo will respond to the artwork. A quote from a movie adds a bit of wit, while confusion has arisen as to whether the mushroom and Bill Blaster have been added to the artwork, or if it is simply the pipe itself.
