Ring Fit Adventure: A Great Game with Even Greater Potential

A sequel to Ring Fit Adventure would be a welcome sight for fans of the Nintendo Switch exclusive. With an astounding 15 million copies sold, the first game has proven to be a surprise hit, introducing a new generation to the wonders of the Ring-Con. However, despite its success, it feels like there is still so much untapped potential that Nintendo could explore with a Ring Fit Adventure 2 or a meaningful evolution of the game on a more advanced console.

Ring Fit Adventure has undoubtedly become a top-tier classic of the Nintendo Switch era. Given its impressive sales figures, it is baffling that a sequel or expansion has not been announced. In comparison, a game like 1-2 Switch, which had lower sales and a smaller player base, received a sequel. This is not to say that 1-2 Switch is a bad game, but when Ring Fit Adventure is arguably the best fitness game on the market and one of the finest titles on the Nintendo Switch, it feels like a missed opportunity.

Even if Ring Fit Adventure never receives a sequel, it would be fantastic to see Nintendo take the lessons learned from the game and apply them to other fitness titles, such as the excellent Switch Sports. Ring Fit Adventure successfully gamifies workouts, incorporating quests and enemies, but many players have completed the adventure and now use the game as a home workout tool. I have personally been using Ring Fit Adventure for almost two years now, and it has significantly improved my fitness regimen.

The potential directions for a follow-up are numerous. Nintendo could allow players to import their fitness levels from the first game or offer entirely new tailored exercises to take their fitness to the next level. The possibilities are truly endless, and Nintendo has the opportunity to capitalize on the success of the first game by delivering a truly immersive fitness experience.

Even beyond a potential Ring Fit Adventure 2, there are plenty of ways the game could expand beyond fitness quests. The Ring-Con, a highlight of the game, offers exciting possibilities for utilizing the console's movement and gyro control features. Just imagine swinging your arms to cast fireballs in a Zelda dungeon or dodging incoming attacks by leaning left and right.

While I cannot personally vouch for the lackluster Zelda–Fable crossover, it would be intriguing to see Nintendo explore another big RPG series like Dragon Quest, which is already renowned for being one of the best games on the Nintendo Switch. Perhaps a sequel is being saved for the next iteration of the Nintendo Switch, but fans are eagerly awaiting any news. Rumors even suggest that a new Zelda game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch this year, so hopefully, we will hear something about Ring Fit Adventure, too.
