Upgrade Oatchi in Pikmin 4

Want to know how to upgrade Oatchi in Pikmin 4? Captain Olimar’s colleague is adorable, but also mighty, and can be a huge help in combat and exploration. It wouldn’t be fair to call his contribution to the Pikmin 4 story incidental, as he’s crucial to your team’s success.

Answer the call to be a hero in Pikmin 4 by rescuing your colleagues from the Rescue Corps on PNF-404. Captain Olimar is also stranded on the planet, but he doesn’t contribute to your squad. Instead, you can use his help to get the job done. To help you out, we’ve got the lowdown on how to unlock new skills for your furry friend.

How to upgrade Oatchi in Pikmin 4

Captain Shepherd rewards you with Pup Drive for each castaway you rescue. This currency can then be used to unlock new skills for Oatchi. Befriend Oatchi, the adorable space puppy, who becomes a crucial part of your team. Not only does he help in combat and exploration, but also he’s essential for finding collectibles, which we go into in more detail in our Pikmin 4 review.

Here are all of Oatchi’s skills and their upgrades:

When Oatchi is fully upgraded, he can do a lot more than just bite enemies. His skills are combat-related, exploration-focused, or utility-based. In the early game, you might spend Pup Drive on upgrading Oatchi’s combat skills, but the options grow significantly later on.

Unlock Doggy-Paddle by attempting to take Oatchi into water. Captain Shepherd rescues him before he drowns, but the two have a discussion about how dogs aren’t meant to swim. Shepherd teaches Oatchi how to swim, which is essential for traversing waterlogged areas.

Upgrade combat skills like Chomp, Big Chomp, Rush, and Mega Rush to make Oatchi even more formidable than before. The healing ability allows Oatchi to heal himself over time rather than relying on healing items, although you can still use the former if you prefer.

Explore and discover new areas with skills like Jump, Buff, Super Buff, Doggy-Paddle, Dig, Pluck, and Command. The late-game skills are Infinite Rush, which allows Oatchi to speed around without stopping, and Swallow, which enables Oatchi to carry items back to the ship much faster. You can fully unlock the Swallow skill only after rescuing Captain Olimar, but you can start training Oatchi for it.

Now you know everything there is to know about Pikmin 4 Oatchi and his skills, you can start training him to become the best companion possible. Do keep in mind that you can also unlock new skills for your Pikmin, as well as new weapons and gear for your Pikmin 4 characters.
