Pikmin 4: A Fun and Refined Strategy Game

Pikmin 4 is a Nintendo Switch exclusive, delivering a refined and accessible experience that's perfect for newcomers and veterans alike. The adorable alien rescue pup Oatchi is just one of the many new features that make Pikmin 4 a charming and approachable game.

Pikmin 4 blends all the best aspects of the previous games together, with a few new concepts. New features include a rewind mechanic and an adorable pet, as well as new modes and minigames to keep you busy.

In Pikmin 4, your objective is to find missing Rescue Corps members and get back home. The main mission can take you 16-20 hours to complete, with a significant post-game that includes additional content and challenges, extending the gameplay to 25-30 hours.

Night expeditions and cave systems are new additions that bring different gameplay experiences. The caves play out like typical dungeons, with puzzles and enemies, though more unique elements could have been added. The night expeditions are fun, but could benefit from more variety. A day/night cycle or season change mechanic would have added depth to the environment and gameplay.

The classic Pikmin gameplay of strategically maneuvering your Pikmin around well-designed areas, tossing them onto enemies, and acquiring fruit and collectibles is still present. The combat is fun, but it's possible to get through the game by simply throwing your Pikmin onto enemies instead of utilizing their special skills.

The new rewind mechanic is a welcome addition, making the game more accessible for newcomers and allowing veterans to correct any mistakes. Additionally, Pikmin 4 offers a variety of modes and minigames, including the charming new Hide 'n' Seek mode.

Pikmin 4 is the best game in the series yet, offering something for both fans and newcomers. While the combat may be too basic for some and the night expeditions and caves could have been more creative, everything else about Pikmin 4 is well designed and enjoyable.

Pikmin 4 is available on Nintendo Switch for $59.99. Visit our coupon page for the Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers program to learn how you can save money on your purchase. You can also try the Pikmin 4 demo on the Nintendo eShop to see if the game is right for you.
