Pokemon TCG Paradox Rift Expansion Unveiled at World Championships
The Pokemon TCG’s newest expansion, Paradox Rift, is all about time-travelling Paradox Pokemon, and we got a look at them in person at the World Championships this weekend. Paradox Rift takes players into Area Zero to encounter Paradox Pokemon in the Paldea region, and it looks like the expansion will be a blast.
The World Championships event this weekend is the last opportunity to see the new cards in action ahead of their launch in November. Four Paradox Pokemon have been confirmed so far: Iron Valiant ex, Iron Hands ex, Roaring Moon ex, and Sandy Shocks ex.
They’re joined by other cards that haven’t been given the ex treatment yet, including Scream Tail, Iron Bundle, Iron Moth, and Brute Bonnet. There are also some lovely Ancient and Future Paradox Pokemon on display, including a big Garchomp, a Mewtwo that looks like it’s straight out of the Anime, and what appears to be a beautiful Gholdengo.
The game’s developers have been gradually introducing more and more cards from the Japanese Raging Surf expansion into the game for the past few sets, and it looks like that trend will continue with Paradox Rift. Most excitingly, Garchomp, Mewtwo, Gholdengo, and Armarouge will all receive the ex treatment, which will provide a nice boost to their already impressive stats.
The gradual introduction of Scarlet & Violet generation key aspects has been a theme throughout the card game, and it looks like Paradox Pokemon completes that representation. Not only that, but Paradox Rift is the last tentpole release of 2023 for the Pokemon TCG, with future sets shifting to smaller expansions and League Cups.
If you’re looking to pick up some of the cards on display at the World Championships, or just want to get ahead of the curve, the official Pokemon website confirms that Elite Trainer boxes based on Iron Valiant or Roaring Moon will be available for purchase.
