The Pokemon TCG Worlds side event canceled, leaving players angry
The Pokemon TCG Worlds side event has been canceled, with players expressing anger as the Pokemon World Championships moves toward its final day. With the Worlds main event getting closer to its conclusion, players were looking forward to the chance to participate in the Yokohama Open and potentially bag some additional prizes. However, a last-minute change to the schedule means that players who had made plans to take part in the tournament are facing disappointment.
The Yokohama Open takes place alongside the Pokemon TCG Worlds main event, with players able to take part in a series of round robin events to win prizes. As with the main event, players who participate in the Open can earn Championship Points and a place on the World Championships invite list.
However, the scheduled side event for the Open has been canceled, leaving players furious as they head toward the final day of the Worlds event.
“Yokohama Open side event canceled. Furious,” one player writes on Twitter. “Yokohama side event canceled,” another replies. “Everyone go to @Wizards_Magic and complain.”
“The Yokohama Open side event has been canceled,” another player writes. “I hope the decision makers at @Wizards_Magic can explain their reasoning.”
A Wizards of the Coast representative explains that the side event has been canceled due to time constraints.
“We apologize for the last minute cancellation of the Yokohama Open Side Event,” they say. “Unfortunately, we are unable to run the event due to time constraints, as the top cut is scheduled to take place at 6:00 PM.”
“We will be awarding the same prizes regardless of participation. Please be sure to check in at the side event registration desk to receive your participation prizes and entry into the Main Event.”
Players are not happy with this reply, however, and a search for “Yokohama Open side event canceled” on Twitter produces hundreds of results.
“The side events have been canceled at the World Championships,” another player writes. “This is a travesty and a direct attack on player choice and community.”
“I’m so mad,” another replies. “All these players did was make plans to play in a fun event and the organizers just canceled it.”
“Why would you cancel the side events?” another player asks. “So disappointed.”
“Why do you do this to us?” another replies. “The side events are the best part of Worlds!”
“What a joke,” another player replies. “Canceling the side events is a low blow.”
“Canceling side events at Worlds is such a bad decision,” another replies.
