How to Clean a PS5

The PS5 is a high-spec, high-tech piece of equipment, so it’s no surprise that keeping it clean is a key part of keeping it in top condition. Dust and dirt can accumulate in fan outlets, affecting cooling efficiency, and can even contribute to the console cutting out. Taking apart your PS5 for cleaning is a simple process, and we’ll walk you through it step by step.

We’d recommend cleaning your PS5 every three to six months, but it’s worth keeping in mind that regular cleaning can prevent issues down the line, so you won’t have to open up your console to deal with them.

Here’s how to clean your PS5:

Start by removing the top cover. Exert gentle force to slide it off, but don’t force it if you feel resistance. Flip the console over to remove the bottom cover in the same way.

Use a microfiber cloth to clean the fan outlets and other surfaces inside. Pay special attention to the vents on the back and front of the console, which can easily get clogged up with dust.

If you’re feeling brave, you can remove the plates, but we’d recommend doing so only if you’re going to give the vents and shell a good clean too. To do this, first remove the screws on the rear of the console, then gently pull the top plate away from the shell. Repeat for the bottom plate.

Reattach the plates by sliding them back into place until you hear a click. Note that, if you’re going to put the console back together without fully cleaning the insides, it’s best to do this without the plates attached, as it makes getting in there a lot easier.

If you’re not going to remove the plates, you can clean the vents and shell without much fuss, but we’d still recommend giving the fan outlets a good clean. To do this, use a microfiber cloth or compressed air to remove any dirt, dust, and smudges.

Again, we wouldn’t recommend using a vacuum cleaner due to the risk of damage, and regular household cleaners can damage the console’s paint, so stick to plain water.

There you have it, how to clean a PS5. If you’re going to be taking the console apart regularly, you may want to invest in a cleaning kit or specialized toolkit, which can make the process easier.
