Red Dead Redemption PS5 and Switch port

Red Dead Redemption PS5 and Switch port is here, and we've had a chance to dig into Rockstar's latest take on the classic western game. It's a welcome addition to the PlayStation library, but Red Dead Redemption feels more like a modest upgrade than a full-scale remaster, with some welcome graphical improvements but no real enhancements beyond that.

In many ways, Red Dead Redemption PS5 port is a welcome return to Rockstar's wild west. It runs fairly well on the Nintendo Switch and PS5, and is a fun, if flawed, entry in the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

However, the lack of any meaningful enhancements beyond graphics leaves the game feeling like a step back, rather than a leap forward, and the unchanged UI and capped frame rate are major letdowns.

The PS5 Red Dead Redemption port is better than its Xbox Series X counterpart, according to Digital Foundry, with image quality that's cleaner and sharper with some improvements to shadow quality. However, it also makes some scenes look harsh as a result.

The interface is still stuck at 720p, which makes it look muddy when scaled up to 4K, and the game is still locked to 30fps on PS5, which is disappointing for a game that's more than a decade old.

In-game, Red Dead Redemption runs fairly well, with the frame rate stable in most situations, but there are noticeable stutters during certain cutscenes, which feels more like a frame rate issue than anything else.

Despite the improvements, many fans are left feeling that the $49.99 price tag isn't justified. We also have a new bundle on the Microsoft store that asks for $100 for both Red Dead Redemption and its sequel, and there's been a lot of backlash over that as well.

All told, the Red Dead Redemption PS5 port is a clean-feeling experience, but falls short of being the full-scale remaster that many were hoping for. It's a modest upgrade with some welcome graphical improvements, but feels more like Rockstar is charging for an HD texture update rather than a complete overhaul.
