Red Dead Redemption PS4 and Switch Ports

Red Dead Redemption is coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch with a digital release on August 17, with a physical release to follow in October. While the ports are welcome, the price is a concern, and the Xbox version is clearly better with 4K resolution and multiplayer support. While the undead zombie mode is a nice touch, PlayStation and Switch players are upset about the lack of a PC port, and the fact that the ports are likely inferior to the Xbox version.

Price Comparison

In what feels like a move straight out of the microtransaction handbook, Red Dead Redemption PS4 and Switch players will have to pay $50 for what is essentially a 13-year-old game. On Xbox, the base game costs $39.99, with the Undead Nightmare DLC included. Considering the PS4 version is likely a direct port, it’s unclear why it’s more expensive, especially since it lacks the visual upgrades and multiplayer.

Red Dead Redemption Xbox Price

The Xbox version of Red Dead Redemption with Undead Nightmare costs $39.98. It includes 4K resolution and multiplayer support. While Red Dead Redemption PS4 and Red Dead Redemption Switch ports will include Undead Nightmare DLC, it’s unclear if they’ll include the extra bonus content from the Game of the Year edition.

Unfortunately, the announcement video doesn’t clarify whether the ports have any graphical improvements, but they’re almost certainly locked at 30fps, disappointing PlayStation players who are used to playing games at 1080p/60fps.

The main issue is that many expected a full remaster, especially after the below tweet, which has since been deleted. However, it appears to have been nothing more than a rumor.

Bringing the classic game to more platforms is great, but to charge $50 for what feels like an inferior version of a 13-year-old game is a little hard to swallow. Especially when the Xbox version is so much cheaper.

However, the fact that Red Dead Redemption Xbox is cheaper than the ports gives us some hope that Rockstar will drop the price before it launches on PS4 and Switch.
