AMD’s RX 7900 XTX graphics card crashes hard in Ratchet and Clank with Ray Tracing enabled, as performance issues have been confirmed across the range. In addition to intermittent corruption, the latest Ratchet and Clank also causes the entire application to hang on AMD Graphics Products.

Ratchet and Clank uses an adaptive ray tracing system which improves the quality of reflections and lighting based on the power of your GPU. Even the mighty AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX experiences complete conking out, but other Radeon cards also seem to struggle with the feature.

“Some AMD Graphics Products may experience performance issues while playing Ratchet and Clank when ray tracing and dynamic resolution scaling are enabled,” AMD says. “AMD is working with the game developers to resolve these issues as soon as possible.”

Given the nature of the issue, you might want to avoid enabling ray tracing until a patch is released. If you do want to try it out, you might find you need to switch out to a lower resolution or lower some of the game’s other settings.

If you’re using an AMD Graphics Product and experiencing issues, you can contact AMD for support.
