The RX 7800 XT Leaks Again
The RX 7800 XT has leaked again, this time via a mistake on the part of PowerColor, as the GPU maker puts up the specs of the upcoming AMD graphics card on its product page, before pulling the page down. The specs it provides are near-complete, and suggest the 7800 XT is imminent, and may not be the 1440p powerhouse we hoped for.
Disappointing Specifications
We’ve been waiting for the RX 7800 XT for a while now, with AMD CEO Dr Lisa Su mentioning a launch before the end of October. Sadly, it looks like the latest Radeon offering may not be the powerhouse we hoped for, as specs listed on the PowerColor page, which has since been taken down, suggest the card will feature fewer shaders and lower clock speeds compared to the RX 7900 XT, while maintaining the same memory capacity.
The RX 7800 XT has 3840 shaders, 28% fewer than the RX 7900 XT, with both cards rocking 16GB of memory. The 7800 XT’s clock speed is slightly higher, but we’re not sure the boost will translate into a meaningful performance advantage over the RX 6800 XT.
Video Outputs and Limitations
The product page also lists the RX 7800 XT’s video outputs, which include one HDMI 2.1 and three DisplayPort 2.1. Sadly, it seems only two DP 2.1 connections can be utilised at once, meaning the card won’t be ideal for multi-monitor setups.
Performance and Power Consumption
The 7800 XT’s performance and price will ultimately determine how it fits into the RTX 4060 Ti vs 4070 battle, but we’re not expecting it to compete well against Nvidia’s latest. The card will likely consume more power too, potentially drawing over 250W, which may limit its suitability for high refresh rate gaming.
Consequences for PowerColor
With a triple slot, triple fan configuration, the RX 7800 XT is likely going to be quite a beast, and PowerColor may have jumped the gun by putting the specs online before the release date. Someone at the company is likely going to be facing consequences for this leak.
