The Spider-Man 2 Meme Comes to Life at San Diego Comic-Con

The Spider-Man 2 meme that just won’t die has come back to life, in a very literal way. That’s right – the shot of Miles and Peter standing in an alleyway has become a real-life meme photo opportunity at San Diego Comic-Con, and it’s absolutely delightful.

The meme itself has been a big part of the Spider-Man community for the past few years, with the infamous Peter Parker simulator meme of Peter and Miles in the alleyway from the game’s promotional material keeping fans amused while we wait for the Spider-Man sequel to actually come out.

If you’re not in the know, Spider-Man 2’s marketing used the image of Peter and Miles in the alleyway extensively. It appeared on the back of comic books, in TV ads, and even as memes from Insomniac itself (as seen in the header image). Initially hated, the image has now become ironically beloved by fans, and it just won’t die.

Despite the release of new footage, and a whole lot of other news, the image is still making a comeback. And now, as reported by Polygon, at San Diego Comic-Con there is a dedicated section at the Marvel booth where fans can take photos next to life-size versions of Peter and Miles in front of the iconic alleyway.

Insomniac is aware of the memes, and is embracing them with their booth. And fans are loving the photo opportunity – so much so that the Spider-Man PS4 subreddit is basically inundated with fan photos from the Marvel booth.

“I can’t believe I’m actually in the screenshot,” one fan writes, while another says, “I’m actually real now.” It’s a really fun experience, and a positive one that brings the community together.

Of course, this turnaround from frustration to enjoyment isn’t universal – the article ends with a humorous plea to Sony to avoid using the same image repeatedly in the future.

But for now, the meme lives on, and continues to trend. Check out some of the fan photos from the Marvel booth below:

Or, if you’re at SDCC yourself, you can take the photo yourself – here’s the address:
