Splinter Cell: Fans Demand a Long-Awaited Sequel
Splinter Cell fans are demanding a long-awaited sequel to the stealth-Action game, but they’re not particularly interested in the kind of Splinter Cell game that might follow Blacklist 2. In fact, in light of the recent Assassin’s Creed franchise story direction changes, many are calling for a soft reboot instead, citing Blacklist as an example of a missed opportunity for a fresh Splinter Cell start.
“Splinter Cell fans have been waiting for a sequel for years.” That’s the statement made by one YouTube commenter in response to the announcement that Splinter Cell is getting a remake and a sequel. Although there’s some disagreement about whether or not the original game should be remade from the ground up, with some expressing concern about plans to change the story for a modern audience, most seem to agree that the gameplay and the controls need to be modernized, while the three-dimensional level design and the emphasis on stealth should remain.
While many agree that actor Michael Ironside should return as Sam Fisher, some suggest that the worlds of Splinter Cell, Watch_Dogs, and Assassin’s Creed should be merged into one massive game. Others criticize the story direction in Blacklist, and the decision to change Sam Fisher’s voice actor.
“I don’t know why they had to change Sam’s voice. I don’t know why they decided to make him a family man, and make him grey… I just don’t like those changes.” Another user adds, “I loved the original Splinter Cell games. They were so good. I am so sad to see them go.”
Despite some criticisms, there are still plenty of Splinter Cell players who find Blacklist enjoyable. “Please Ubisoft, make a good Splinter Cell!” one user writes. “Splinter Cell multiplayer is pure chaos,” another says. “It was so much fun!”
It’s true that the core gameplay of Blacklist remains fun, especially its multiplayer mode. But there’s no doubt that many were disappointed with the changes made to Sam Fisher’s character and the generic story it presented.
In any case, it’s confirmed that the original Splinter Cell game is getting a remake, although some are questioning the cancellation of the Splinter Cell: Rogue Strike remaster.
In any case, take a look at some of our favorite Splinter Cell memories. You’ll definitely hear us praise the gameplay of Double Agent and Chaos Theory, and we’ll certainly be talking about the Gear Loadout soundtrack as well.
