The next Spongebob game and its meme-focused approach
The next SpongeBob game might have even more meme-based content in the form of a new taunt and alternate costume for the character. The reveal comes from the latest All-Star Brawl 2 leak, and while it’s less significant than the El Tigre one, it suggests developer Game Freak is sticking with the meme-focused approach it took with the first All-Star Brawl.
Previous leaks and new characters
All-Star Brawl 2 has been a poorly kept secret in the gaming world, with earlier leaks hinting at Squidward as a playable character, a new model for Danny Phantom, and a special move for Patrick. The cover art leak confirmed additional new characters, and the creator of El Tigre – which also had a meme-heavy approach to character design – even hinted at the game’s development.

Now, we have a closer look at SpongeBob with a new taunt and alternate costume. The images were shared on the All-Star Brawl subreddit, showcasing SpongeBob in the “Tired SpongeBob” meme pose.
While the gameplay and graphics look to have received a graphical upgrade over the previous game, All-Star Brawl 2 appears to be sticking with its meme-focused approach. Whether that’s a good or bad thing will be up to you, but it’s certainly going to be a talking point when the game is inevitably officially revealed.
We can also expect more than one alternate costume for each character, with SpongeBob already having an alternate outfit from the previous game.
Leak image credibility
The images’ validity is supported by their format and similarities to previous leaks. It’s still less significant than the El Tigre leak, so I’m inclined to believe it, but the SpongeBob images are still pretty inconsequential. So while they’re not fake, they’re still not that important.
