The Witcher viewership drops by more than 30% following Season 3

The Witcher viewership is down by a significant amount, with the Netflix Fantasy series seeing a drop of around 30% in viewers following the release of Season 3. The Netflix show’s future may be in jeopardy, as the series experiences a major drop in viewers, potentially due to the controversy surrounding the show’s direction and the departure of actor Henry Cavill, who played Geralt.

Fans of The Witcher have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the series’ latest outing, with some viewers boycotting the show and expressing harsh criticism for the direction of The Witcher Season 3 and Netflix’s handling of the series. Now, The Witcher viewership numbers have been revealed, and the news isn’t great for the Netflix fantasy show.

According to Redanian Intelligence, The Witcher viewership has decreased by 30 percent compared to the release of Season 2, with the decision to cast newcomer Kai Schumann as the new young Geralt and the show’s handling of Cavill’s departure being cited as major factors.

Netflix has introduced a new metric to determine a show’s success, known as “views,” which takes into account hours viewed, divided by season runtime. The first ten days of Season 2’s release saw the show accumulate 310 million hours viewed, resulting in 41.8 million views. In comparison, the first part of The Witcher Season 3 has garnered 139.5 million hours viewed in its first 11 days, translating to 29 million views in the new metric.

There are several factors that could be impacting The Witcher viewership, and some are unrelated to the show’s quality. It is natural to see a decline in viewership between seasons, as not everyone who watched the first two seasons will continue to watch the third.

Additionally, some viewers may be waiting for the complete release of Season 3 before watching it, although this is less likely as the show is available to watch as it airs. However, it is important to acknowledge the controversy surrounding Henry Cavill’s departure and Netflix’s handling of the series, which may have played a part in fans dropping the show.

The true test will be the viewing figures of Season 4, when the series will transition from Cavill to Liam Hemsworth. For now, however, the position of Liam Hemsworth, who will take on the role of Geralt, appears to be a challenging one.
