Tomb Raider’s official website has been updated with a new image that teases “breaking news,” and it appears to be a possible indication that the rumors regarding a new Tomb Raider game announcement are true. While the news may seem sudden, leaked details from over a year ago suggested development of a new game that would focus on a team of raiders and their adventures in the central Asian region of Kulan.
Twitter user @thetreeble spotted the website update and shared the news on the popular messaging platform. The image depicts Lara seemingly preparing to scale a steep cliff with the text “breaking news” just below. Previously leaked information suggested that the new game would be revealed in 2023, but it is possible that an announcement could come as soon as Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 22, which features a “world exclusive” reveal from Tomb Raider developer Reef Entertainment in addition to other announcements from Square Enix.
Geoff Keighley, the host of Gamescom Opening Night Live, has previously cautioned against high expectations for new game reveals. Nevertheless, the event should provide at least some news regarding a potential new game.
Aside from the new game, fans are also eagerly anticipating the upcoming film adaptation of Tomb Raider, which is slated for release in 2022.
