An Xbox controller customized to look like a giant cheeto sparks a spectrum of opinions in the community
A user's first attempt at a custom Xbox controller has sparked a spectrum of opinions in the Community, with some calling it a masterpiece and others seeing it as a dollar store version. We have to admit, it does have a certain je ne sais quoi.
The controller is the work of Redditor a1exa1 and, despite being made from humble plastic, the gold finish gives it a rich, regal quality that some liken to royalty itself. Others see it as something more akin to a monarchy of questionable taste, with comparisons to the C-3PO controller and an early 2000s rapper in their prime.
"Is it fluent in over six million forms of communication?" One user asks. "No," comes the reply. "It's fluent in over six million forms of communication and will clean your console's screen with its tongue." Another user mentions the 'Make controllers great again' joke, which is then followed with a comment on how its cheeto dust fingerprints would really stand out on this bold design.
Despite the clear divide in opinion (and the fact that some see it as a digital render), it seems that this controller fits the bill of r/ATBGE (Awful Taste But Great Execution). Many users appreciate the execution despite finding the design in poor taste, with the shiny gold finish being both praised for its slickness and criticized for its potential fingerprint magnetism.
"I thought this was an artists' rendering," one user comments. "I thought this was photoshopped," says another. "Bot," one comment accuses, before going on to deem the controller "terrible" and "absolutely awful". This last opinion, however, appears to be in the minority.
"Mooom... Buy!" one user humorously exclaims, while another adds a gaming twist by asking how many kills it takes to unlock this camo. "This is gold," another user declares, acknowledging the unique and attention-grabbing nature of this custom creation, which is undoubtedly the centerpiece of any gaming setup.
