Black Mirror Season 6 Easter eggs and references

The sixth season of Charlie Booker’s sci-fi anthology series, Black Mirror, has landed on Netflix, and it is packed with hidden nuggets that pay homage to earlier seasons. If you’re having trouble spotting them all, we’re here to help.

Throughout the new episodes, there are plenty of Easter eggs and references to previous seasons. Mirror Mirror showcases a familiar concept from an earlier episode, while The Future is Now includes a news headline referencing the infamous “15 Million Merits” episode. Fans of the melancholic San Junipero will appreciate the cameo appearance of the virtual reality nightclub in Digital Dreams. Additionally, eagle-eyed fans will spot the infamous “Black Museum” from a few seasons ago in a brief moment in The Dark Reflection.

If you think that’s all, we’ve got more secrets to reveal – subtle hints about Bethany, a reference to the Playtest episode, and a hidden message on a computer screen cautioning about being careful what you wish for.

Here’s every Easter egg and reference we’ve spotted so far:

Mirror, mirror on the wall

Season 6’s first episode, Mirror, Mirror, pays tribute to Black Mirror history. Besides judge Michael Daly’s updated razor-sharp teeth, there is a subtle nod to the “White Christmas” episode through a billboard featuring the character Joe Potter.

The Future is Now

“The Future is Now” brings back the old Black Mirror predictions of the future with an amusing news headline about how the “butterflies are free” meme from “White Christmas” made things awkward for anyone associated with it.

San Junipero isn’t Lost

In “Digital Dreams,” the virtual reality nightclub San Junipero is still part of the world of Black Mirror season 6. The instantly recognizable San Junipero sign even makes an appearance in one of the opening shots.

The Mirror Reflects…

During “The Doomed Convict’s” subconscious trip, there’s a brief glimpse of last season’s “Black Museum.” Shout out to the Lightning Girls.

Mind games

In exploring the human condition, Black Mirror delves into the concept of getting lost on the internet. In “The Mind’s Eye,” there is a brief mention of the “Playtest” episode, where actual reality can go terribly wrong. Suzy mentions, “There’s a perfectly normal spectrum between accepting whatever risk someone wants to shoulder and being like, hey, you want to trip on acid?” Her friend replies, “That’s the Playtest spectrum,” to which Suzy responds, “You’re not wrong.”

A Super-Nature Showdown

The second episode of Black Mirror season 6, “Virtual Vengeance,” stands out as Jon "Medicine Man" Schowitz takes on a game company boss in a virtual showdown. Set in a virtual starship that bears USS Callister vibes, this episode delivers some of the most intense action in Black Mirror history, reminiscent of the high-octane battle in San Junipero.

Nosedive this news

“The Dystopian Dilemma” includes a news report about the “Nosedive” episode. We've witnessed the consequences of rating strangers on social media using a five-point scale. This news report showcases a well-timed glimpse of what could be, highlighting the potential consequences of such a society.

Striking Vipers

In a scene that becomes heavily relevant to the episode's twist, “The Reality Game” features Sima playing Death Shadow in a dilapidated gaming shop.
