The latest update to Mario Kart Tour

The latest free update for Mario Kart Tour snatches a big chunk of the racing game away from the usual race circuits and competition arenas, and instead grants you access to a new area packed with tough challenges, including a new tool, a Legendary Bugsnax boss fight, puzzles, and of course, quests.

Broken Tooth Island

Broken Tooth Island is the new area introduced in this update, and you’ll need to complete the side quests of five characters to access it: Chandlo, Snorpy, Shelda, Floofty, and Triffany. Broken Tooth is a late-game area, so you’ll likely be well into MKT’s story mode before you get the chance to head there. It’s also pretty tough – while you’ll be able to take your usual tools with you, you’ll need to use them in unique ways to capture the Bugsnax that call Broken Tooth Island home.

Unique tools and strategies

You’ll get the chance to use a unique tool called Shrink Spice to capture Bugsnax on Broken Tooth Island. Shrink Spice pots are scattered around the island, and you can use them to shrink the Bugsnax to a manageable size. Don’t get too carried away though – the Shrink Spice effect only lasts for a limited time, so you’ll need to act quickly.

You can also use the Snakgrappler to grab Shrink Spice from a distance and throw it at the Bugsnax – it’ll mean you don’t have to get quite so close to any potentially dangerous beasts. You’ll also be able to use the Lunchpad to cover some pretty impressive distances, so you won’t have to spend quite as much time trekking across the island.

11 Bugsnax to capture

There are 11 Bugsnax on Broken Tooth Island, including a Legendary snak with its own boss fight. Each has unique traits and behaviours, so you’ll need to use different tools and strategies to catch each one. The Bunger Royale can be caught by shrinking it with Shrink Spice and tripping it up with the Trip Shot. Cheddorbs can be caught by shrinking them and using the Buggy Ball to flush them out of their hiding places. Millimochi can be captured by heating them up with hot sauce and waiting for a Deviled Eggler to notice them.

Spaghiders can be caught by shrinking them with Shrink Spice, covering them with cheese, and setting them on fire with the Trip Shot. Clawbsteronis can be caught by shrinking them and placing a Snak Trap in their path. The Tikkada Masala can be caught by using hot sauce on nearby Millimochi and shrinking them when they become dazed.

Pielobites can be caught by removing the tags on their lid with the Snakgrappler and then using Shrink Spice on them. Chocolants can be caught by shrinking them and using a Buggy Ball and Snak Trap in a hollow log. Cellystix can be caught by shrinking them with Shrink Spice and using a Trip Shot and Bug Net.

As you might expect from a boss, the Cheddaboardle Rex is a particularly difficult creature to catch. You’ll have to shrink it with Shrink Spice and then use the Trip Shot and Bug Net to bring it to the ground. Once there, you’ll be able to capture it.

Other notable updates

That’s pretty much all there is to Broken Tooth Island, but there are plenty of other notable updates in the latest Mario Kart Tour patch. You can now take on the Tikkada Masala in a Boss Race, there are new outfits to purchase at Snaklander stores, and you can set up cloud saves in case you lose your save data.
