The Counter-Strike 2 release date should be coming soon
After the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test offered some hints at what to expect from the FPS game, we’ve got some more details on Valve’s Counter-Strike 2 release date, maps, and more.
As we outlined in our Counter-Strike 2 preview, there’s a lot to unpack with Valve’s highly anticipated complete overhaul and rebuild of CS:GO. The studio has been conducting a limited test of Counter-Strike 2, fine-tuning the game for public release, and it just added two new maps and the 2v2 Wingman game mode.
Latest maps added to the Counter-Strike 2 limited test
Valve has gone back to the drawing board with Overpass, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s de_dust2, and completely overhauled the classic map. The dev team has fine-tuned the corridor interiors and the playpark, and made some adjustments to wall bang spots and sightlines.
The lower part of Overpass features shimmering water, and I have to say, it’s stunning. The level of detail that’s gone into the map is impressive, and the immersive experience is certainly ramped up a notch.
Vertigo has only just been added to the limited test and is available in Casual and Deathmatch modes only. Based on the map that debuted in CS:GO in 2017, de_vertigo_snow, the 2v2 Wingman map is set in an Alpine mountain range and sees two teams of two face off in a round-based game. The first team to win three rounds claims victory.
Valve expressed “excitement” about shipping the first overhauled map, de_overpass, alongside de_vertigo for the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test. There’s no word yet on whether de_overpass and de_vertigo will be available for the full public release of Counter-Strike 2.
Overpass is also playable in Casual, Deathmatch, Competitive, and Wingman modes, while Vertigo is currently available in Casual and Deathmatch modes.
Valve also shared the full update notes for the latest update to the Counter-Strike 2 limited test, with the patch notes confirming that the update includes “various miscellaneous fixes” alongside bringing back the halftime countdown.
We have not yet heard official word on the official launch date for Counter-Strike 2 but, as we outlined in our Counter-Strike 2 preview, the recent Paris Major will be the last official competitive event for CS:GO.
With the limited test already generating plenty of excitement, and major changes like smoke physics and the ability to inspect grenades already on the way, it looks like Counter-Strike 2 is poised to deliver an enhanced and revitalized experience for fans of the franchise.
