The Counter-Strike 2 Beta: Testing New Maps and Grenade Animations

The highly anticipated Counter-Strike 2 beta has finally arrived, allowing players to get a taste of Valve's follow-up to the legendary FPS game. As the limited test period begins, gamers can experience the multiplayer of CS2, exploring new maps and gameplay changes.

The Counter-Strike 2 beta features three maps, including the popular Dust 2 and Mirage, which are beloved by fans of the Counter-Strike universe. Additionally, Nuke has joined the beta at a later stage. Competitive mode offers access to Dust 2, Nuke, and Mirage.

One noticeable change in CS2 is the absence of cars on all maps, potentially aimed at increasing the pace of gameplay. Players can also explore CS2's version of Office in the casual playlist, providing an opportunity to test out new iterations of classic maps.

The Counter-Strike 2 beta focuses heavily on audio improvements, introducing new distance effects to positional sound sources and addressing various audio bugs from the original game. While the movement and weapon handling in Counter-Strike 2 remain similar to its predecessor, these small changes can significantly impact the overall experience.

One of the most significant additions in the beta is the ability for players to inspect their grenades. This feature, never seen before in Counter-Strike history, allows players to examine their grenades with an animation that suggests Valve may introduce grenade skins in the future. The animation showcases impressive liquid effects, hinting at the possibility of custom molotov cocktails and demonstrating the game's renowned physics.

Other improvements to weapon inspect behavior are in progress, although specific details remain undisclosed. However, players might be disappointed to learn that jumping at the end of warmup time is no longer possible in Counter-Strike 2. Despite this change, the Counter-Strike 2 limited beta runs alongside the regular service of CS:GO, with Valve intending to bring all the features from the original game to the sequel. This means that there will be plenty of improvements to look forward to in the coming months.

Stay tuned for the latest news on Counter-Strike 2 as Valve continues to refine this highly anticipated sequel.
