The indestructible Modern Warfare 2 dog named Merlin is coming to the Modern Warfare 2 companion system.
Yep. That’s right. We’re getting a dog that can’t be harmed, in what’s one of the most unexpected and unique developments in the FPS game.

As we head into the next season of Modern Warfare 2, called Warzone 2, we’re getting a new operator, Arthur, and his bulletproof canine companion, Merlin. As part of the battle pass, we’ll also be getting AI companions, called ‘Battle Buddies,’ that provide commentary on in-game events.
The first Battle Buddy, titled ‘Gwen,’ follows a broadcast journalist as she covers events in the ongoing war. Her commentary is based on the player’s actions, and she’ll also follow and support you in combat. The second, however, is a four-legged friend, who can’t be harmed in any way.
Activision confirms that Merlin, and presumably other companion animals, “cannot be harmed in any way.” This is certainly a bold move, and while I can’t imagine many players would deliberately hurt a dog, it could certainly upset some to know that their bullets can’t even graze their new friend.
Season 5 is launching on August 2, and as well as Merlin and Gwen, we can expect the usual slate of new weapons, maps, and more. Check out the trailer below to get hyped.
