Mortal Kombat 1: Darrius Returns as a Kameo Fighter
Mortal Kombat 1 is generating buzz among fans with its new character additions, and Darrius is among the fighters featured in the upcoming fighting game. Darrius is a fan-favorite character who hasn’t appeared in a game since Mortal Kombat Armageddon, so his return is particularly exciting – and now we know how he’ll appear in Mortal Kombat 1.
Darrius was revealed as a playable fighter in Mortal Kombat 1 during the game’s SDCC panel, where developers Ed Boon and Markр Meer, along with voice actors Johnny V, Talissa Haver, and Josh Keaton, discussed their involvement in the fighting game and shared gameplay footage.
The trailer starts with a look at some of the new characters joining the roster, including Baraka, Li Mei, and Tanya. It then cuts to gameplay footage showcasing Darrius’ re-emergence in the series. He’ll be a Kameo fighter, which is a tag-team mechanic that debuted in Mortal Kombat Deception and has been used in several of the spin-offs since.
The gameplay footage shows Darrius and Goro acting as Kameos in the game, with Goro’s main move being a powerful leap, and Darrius having a grab ability. We don’t get to see much of Darrius’ other abilities, but we’ll get more of a glimpse when the game is shown off at Gamescom later this month.
With Darrius’ return to the series confirmed, it looks like fans will have plenty to look forward to upon the release of Mortal Kombat 1. Darrius isn’t the only fighter who’s making a cameo appearance in the game either – fan-favorite Reptile also appears in the background of one of the fights.
