Indiana Jones 5: Harrison Ford Returns
Indiana Jones 5 is almost here, and if the trailers are any indication, we’re in for a dangerous – and probably blood-soaked – adventure with Dr. Henry ‘Indiana’ Jones Jr. Harrison Ford is returning to bring our favorite globe-trotting archaeologist alive once more.
In a new interview, the Hollywood icon admitted that fame was never part of his master plan – nor was it ever a goal for him.
“No, it wasn’t,” Ford says, when asked if he ever pictured himself as a leading man. “Fame never played into the equation for me. It certainly wasn’t part of my plan. I wanted to make a living as an actor without having to do any other side hustles, and I wanted to do it without having to move to New York, or Los Angeles. That was it.”
Ford shot to worldwide fame in the 1970s, thanks to roles in American Graffiti and The Conversation, before appearing as Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy and defining his career as the swashbuckling Dr. Jones in Indy. To this day, he remains one of the highest-grossing actors in North America, earning well over $1 billion throughout his over 50-year career.
Despite his age (Ford is now in his 80s), the star still loves making Movies, and he says that the riches of experience that come with age are their own reward.
“It’s immensely satisfying to get out of my comfort zone,” he says. “The richness of experience comes along with age, and once you’ve been around the block, there’s an ease and a satisfaction [to] embracing who you are and where you are. That’s the best experience you can have.”
Ford actually sustained a shoulder injury during the filming of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and though he’s taking some time to rest up before he returns to the franchise, the star says he has no plans to slow down. He recently finished filming Captain America: Brave New World, and has appeared in several other projects over recent years, including the prequel to Yellowstone, 1923, as well as the AppleTV series Shrinking. He was also given a Palme d’Or for lifetime achievement at the Cannes Film Festival.
“I thank the fans, I honestly do. Because they’re the ones who have given me opportunities; they allow me to keep working,” he says, when asked why he still chooses to put his all into making fans happy. “That’s the gift that the audience gives, and it’s a real honor to have opportunities to work.”
Indy fans, you can see Harrison Ford once more when Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny releases in theaters on June 30, 2023.
