MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Aero S 24G: A Blower Graphics Card

MSI has produced a GeForce RTX 4090 Graphics Card that uses a blower, and it’ll likely make its way to the consumer market. The board is available from 3DStor, a store specializing in datacenter and workstation hardware, and it’s likely that the company sells directly to end-users. That means you might eventually be able to buy the graphics card for yourself.

The MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Aero S 24G is listed on 3DStor.com for $1,879, but it’s not clear whether that’s the final price. You’ll need to contact the company for an exact quote, but it’s possible that it’ll charge a premium for the graphics card’s brand.

The graphics card is based on the same PCB as other Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards, but it uses a blower-style cooling system. That’s an interesting choice, as Nvidia typically doesn’t produce high-end graphics cards with blowers. However, the firm might have made an exception for the Aero S 24G, since it’s tailored for professionals who may need multiple cards in one system.

Considering the fact that the RTX 4090 is a power hog, it makes sense that the Aero S 24G uses a blower. It’ll be easier for the cooler to keep the board running at stock boost clocks, which will prevent it from overheating. That’ll help it achieve its full potential, even without factory overclocks.

Speaking of overclocks, the graphics card uses a 16-pin 12VHPWR connector, and its TGP is likely the same as other RTX 4090 cards. That means it’ll probably use the same 1,000W power supply, and its boost clock should sit somewhere around 1,800 MHz.

The MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Aero S 24G does get loud, and that’s to be expected given its cooling system. The blower-style cooler is ideal for cooling high-heat graphics cards in compact PCs, but it can get noisy under heavy load. Nevertheless, it’s better to have a loud graphics card than one that fries itself, and liquid cooling is the only alternative.

Even without overclocks, blower-style coolers work well even with limited internal airflow. That’s an issue in larger systems, but it’ll be less of a problem in compact PCs. In fact, liquid cooling is probably the only alternative for the Aero S 24G, since AIOs and custom loops aren’t well suited to high-end graphics cards.

We don’t know the price of the MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Aero S 24G, but it’s listed on eBay for $3,065. That’s comparable to mid-range professional offerings, which means it’ll probably cost a pretty penny.

Expect the graphics card to make its way to the consumer market eventually, as it’ll likely appeal to buyers who want the best of the best.
