The Phison PS5026-E26 Max14um Gen5 SSD

The Phison PS5026-E26 Max14um Gen5 SSD is apparently the fastest Client SSD ever released, as the manufacturer claims that it is capable of read speeds of over 14 GB/s. That’s not all, as the drive also boasts a sequential write speed of over 14 GB/s – the highest we’ve ever seen outside of the enterprise space.

The new drive is built on the PC5026-E26 controller and Micron’s B58R 3D TLC NAND memory chips, which were only recently made available to SSD makers. This means that previous PS5026-E26 drives couldn’t showcase their full potential, as compatible 3D NAND was in short supply.

Now, however, Micron has apparently ramped up production of its fastest 3D NAND, allowing Phison to demonstrate the PS5026-E26 Max14um Gen5 SSD. It boasts impressive sequential read and write speeds of 14,175 MB/s and 12,471 MB/s, respectively, along with high random read and write IOPS.

This performance blows away existing enterprise-grade PCIe Gen5 drives, and even Sabrent’s recent E26-based drive, which is one of the fastest consumer drives on the market right now. It’s unclear whether Phison plans to offer reference designs of the SSD, or will allow partners to achieve similar performance levels on their own, but we’d be surprised if we didn’t see another generation of E26-based SSDs given the incoming PCIe Gen5 drives with different controllers.

In any case, Phison’s demonstration proves that they’re very much on the cutting edge of SSD technology – and they’re definitely looking to highlight that fact as we approach the coming wave of PCIe Gen5 SSDs.
