Best Pikmin 4 Bosses
Are you searching for the best Pikmin 4 bosses? There are plenty of challenging boss battles in the upcoming sequel. These formidable foes will test your skills and determination, and they’re just one of the many wonderful things we saw on our Pikmin 4 demo tour.
From battling against Foolix, a creature protected by a jelly-like blob, to facing the translucent and shapeless Waterwraith, each battle offers a unique challenge. The plucky Pikmin have to use their wits and strength to deal with these foes, and we got to see some of these battles in action during our time with the game. Here are the best boss fights in Pikmin 4.
Emperor Bulblax
This lumbering beast can be a little tricky to take down, as you need to focus your attacks on its face to deal damage. However, you also need to avoid its body slam and it also lets out an area-of-effect roar attack, which can push your Pikmin off the edge. This can be quite the challenge when Emperor Bulblax is up on its hind legs and letting out a roar.
The Emperor Bulblax fight takes place on a large, open field with a number of bone piles for the creature to climb up on. You’ll want to try to keep your Pikmin at the base of the hill, so they can make it up to attack the Bulblax’s face. In the meantime, you’ll want to use Winged Pikmin to pull down the Emperor Bulblax’s beard, which makes it drop apples. You can use your captain to grab these apples and toss them at the Bulblax’s face.
As you’re dealing with this, you’ll have to keep an eye on the Bulblax’s body slam. If it hits any Pikmin, they’ll be instantly killed, so you’ll want to get them out of the way. Finally, you’ll want to make sure your captain isn’t standing around when the Bulblax lets out a roar, as this will push any Pikmin into the abyss.
Three Furious Long-necked Birds
It might sound like an easy fight, but fighting three furious long-necked birds simultaneously is cramped and dangerous. Your Pikmin are small, after all, and the birds can easily knock them away with their swinging attacks.
The birds also emerge from the ground when they do their dive bomb attack, so you’ll have to be quick on your feet to dodge. On the other hand, you can strike when they get stuck or emerge from the ground.
Snowflake Fluttertail
This flying butterfly-like creature can be quite a handful. While you can attack it when it lands on the ground, Snowflake Fluttertail will attack by delivering swinging attacks that demand precise timing to dodge. It also has a chilling gusty attack that sends your Pikmin reeling.
Arctic Cannon Beetle
This armored bug can be tricky to deal with, as you can’t harm it until it exposes its vulnerable spot. The Arctic Cannon Beetle can also release freezing air and fall down icicles, so you’ll have to be careful about how you approach it.
Fortunately, the Arctic Cannon Beetle doesn’t move around much, so you have some time to strategize. You can try to get it to release icy breath by getting close and then running away, which causes it to exhale. Alternatively, you can use the Bomber-rock to cause an explosion and knock the Beetle’s armored shell off.
Gildemander
Gildemander is an agile lizard that has a golden back. However, the only way you can defeat this foe is by targeting three hidden rubies beneath the gold. You can tell when Gildemander is about to let out a roar attack by the three gems on its back glowing. If you can toss a Pikmin into one of these gems, Gildemander will be stunned and drop fruit.
The Smoky Progg
The Smoky Progg is basically a massive ball of smoke that launches projectiles and shakes off attacking Pikmin. The key here is to keep attacking via a steady stream of Pikmin while avoiding the projectiles. The Progg will shake off attacking Pikmin, but you can catch it off guard with a well-timed attack.
Groovy Longlegs
Groovy Longlegs is a disco ball boss that emits gas, which disorients your Pikmin. The gas also makes it difficult to navigate the area, as you’ll have to contend with ledges that can drop off and bottomless pits.
Groovy Longlegs also goes into frenzied stomping rampages in different phases. When it’s not emitting gas, Groovy Longlegs will drop fruit when you toss Pikmin onto its body. Otherwise, it’ll slam its body or shake off attacking Pikmin.
Ancient Sirehound
The Ancient Sirehound presents the toughest and longest boss fight in the game. It has multiple phases, with the Sirehound shedding its skin to reveal a more powerful form. The difficulty ramps up considerably during this process, as the Sirehound attacks in more ways and the arena gets smaller.
The Sirehound can attack by leaping at you, causing a shock wave that can stun you, or it can unleash a freezing breath attack.
