Ayaneo Kun

The Ayaneo Kun is another handheld gaming PC on the way, following the Asus Steam Deck. The new device features the same Ryzen 7 7840U APU, and it also looks like it’ll have the same mouse-like functionality for PC games, courtesy of its innovative dual intelligent touchpads.

The Ayaneo Kun is the first Windows handheld with a touchpad design. The company says that it’s the size of the device that enables this, as the screen’s footprint is larger than that of the Steam Deck. Ayaneo says that the device is still meant for “semi-mobile scenarios,” but we’re not sure how that’ll affect gameplay.

Ayaneo Kun specs

Here are the Ayaneo Kun specs, as revealed on JD.com:

  • The 8.4-inch screen looks slightly larger than that of the Steam Deck, with a higher native resolution of 1600p. The 75Wh battery sounds fairly large too, and it should provide plenty of juice for gaming.
  • The Ryzen 7 7840U could struggle a little with the higher resolution of 2560 x 1600, but we’ll have to wait and see how this handheld performs. Other details, such as the weight, cost, and how it feels in hand are still unknown.

Ayaneo is also releasing a smaller device, the Ayaneo Air 1S. This appears to be a more standard handheld, with a traditional button layout and a lighter build. It also has a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, which should be easier to run than the higher resolution of the Kun.

Ayaneo is also planning a gaming handheld with a slide-out screen and a RGB-backlit keyboard, called the Ayaneo Slide. This device is set to launch later in the year, but in the meantime the Kun is set to launch at the end of August.

There are already multiple handheld gaming PCs with different specs and form factors coming out, and it’s great to see the different ideas come to fruition. Check out our best gaming handheld guide if you’re looking for something to use on the go.
