The Nihil serve as a sort of foil to the Jedi Order, as they possess advanced technology and the ability to bend hyperspace travel rules. The group serves as a major threat to Republic citizens, and they oppose the expansion of the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order into their region.
There’s also a smaller group of villains, The Nameless. This species of beings feeds on Force users, and they ally with The Nihil. This poses a major threat to the Jedi, and we’re starting to see hints of this threat in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Who are the heroes of The High Republic?
There are a number of heroes from The High Republic, but perhaps the most important is Marchion Ro. The last descendant of the Ro family, Marchion assumes leadership of The Nihil following the death of her husband.
Marchion Ro is a primary character in The High Republic novels, and she’s a conflicted character who is forced to make difficult decisions and face harsh realities. She’s not a hero, but she’s not as villainous as she could be.
Other heroes from The High Republic include Cal Kestis and Dagan Gera. Cal is a major character in Jedi: Survivor, and he’s a bounty hunter and former Jedi Padawan. He’s on a path of redemption following the events of Jedi: Fallen Order, and he’s looking for a haven. Dagan is a rogue Jedi from The High Republic who’s corrupted by encounters with The Nihil, leading him to turn against the Jedi in pursuit of his vision of peace.
There are also plenty of minor characters to discover, including The Drengir and The Drengir. The Drengir are a race of carnivorous plants that emerge as villains, intent on spreading and consuming all in their path. The Drengir possess a shared consciousness and the ability to control living beings.
