The Sims 4 Horse Ranch adds horses to the forefront of your gameplay, and you’re going to need to secure one for your ranch. Fortunately, The Sims team has thought of everything, and there are a few ways you can go about getting your first horse in the expansion pack.
How to Get a Horse in The Sims 4 Horse Ranch
The Sims 4 Horse Ranch allows for horses of all breeds and colors to exist in the game, so you have a lot of customization options when it comes to creating your equine companion. You can create a horse from scratch using the Create-a-Sim menu by selecting the ‘Pet’ tab, then ‘Horse’. You’ll be able to choose the horse’s breed, color, mane style, and up to three personality traits. Different horse types have varying levels of trainability, which we’ll discuss in more detail later in this guide.
Alternatively, you can visit the Equestrian Center in the new world of Chestnut Ridge, or interact with the Horse Bed on your lot. For the price of 1,000 simoleons, you can either buy a pre-made horse from the Equestrian Center or visit the adoption center to rescue one.
Buying a Horse
When choosing to buy your horse, you’ll be able to select from a variety of horses with favorable traits. Hover over each horse’s portrait to see more information about them, including their personality traits and training level. Purchased horses are generally easier to train, but you’ll need to consider their personality traits and whether they will fit into your family.
Rescuing a Horse
On the other hand, rescuing a horse costs only 250 simoleons, but comes with its own set of challenges. As mentioned previously, rescue horses have traits that make them more difficult to train, such as aggression, defiance, or fearfulness.
If you’re feeling up to the challenge, hover over each horse’s portrait before making a choice to see their personality traits. You might want to wait until you’re a bit more familiar with horse care before taking on a rescue horse, but they do often come with their own unique traits and animations.
