The next wave of AMD Radeon graphics cards

The next wave of AMD Radeon Graphics Cards are on the way, and we’ll get our very first look at them at Gamescom on August 25. That’s the word according to AMD, and we’re expecting to get a glimpse at at least one – if not both – of the new 7000 series entries.

While we don’t have any official details on what these new products are exactly, we do have some broad expectations. In 2022, the RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT launched to great acclaim, but left a noticeable gap in AMD’s product stack. The company has since filled that gap with the RX 4070 and RX 4060, but the former is getting decidedly long in the tooth, and the latter is effectively the same card as the RX 3090.

The RX 7800 XT is expected to be a direct competitor to the RTX 4070, with 3840 shader units, 16GB of GDDR6, and a 256-bit bus. The RX 7700 XT meanwhile is a little less clear, with rumours pointing to an RX 4060 Ti competitor. This could mean 12GB of VRAM, a 192-bit bus, and perhaps a focus on pixel pushing performance.

Pricing will be key here, and we’d expect AMD to make a concerted effort to undercut Nvidia on MSRP. Early rumours point to 7000 series prices starting at $449, $499, and $599 for the respective cards. We’ll have to wait and see whether those numbers bear out.

We’ll likely get our first glimpse of the new AMD Radeon graphics cards at Gamescom, but we may have to wait a little longer for reviews. Based on past events, we’d expect to see early reviews go live around September.
