Asus RT-AXE7800 WiFi 6E router
The Asus RT-AXE7800 WiFi 6E Router is all about speed, but its lofty price and underwhelming performance make it a tough sell. Sure, it may boast the fastest speeds, but it’s one of the slowest routers we’ve tested, even when there’s little network congestion.
Its unique black hexagonal disc design is as eye-catching as ever, but its impractical design makes it difficult to handle and even heavier than other top routers. The Asus RT-AXE7800’s ports are recessed, and the power, WPS, and reset buttons are located on the underside of the router, which makes it difficult to access without a device stand.
Asus includes a range of features to help you get the most out of this router, including Alexa integration, mesh configuration tooling, and VPN setup. There’s also security protection courtesy of Trend Micro. While we’re pleased to see the latter included at such an affordable price point, it is worth noting that many other routers such as the TP-Link Archer AXE75 offer the same level of security without the need to subscribe to a separate service.

According to Asus, the RT-AXE7800 can reach maximum speeds of 574 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 4,804 Mbps on the 6 GHz band. In reality, our tests found that it was one of the slowest routers, performing better only when there was little network congestion.
Asus RT-AXE7800 WiFi 6E router performance
We test the Asus RT-AXE7800 WiFi 6E router using a Samsung Galaxy S10 and an Intel i7-8700K PC with 32GB DDR4 RAM. Our tests are conducted using ten different WiFi 6E devices, including smartphones and laptops. Each device runs the PassMark WiFi speed test and generates a score. The higher the score, the more devices can access the router at once without experiencing any lag.
In our tests, the RT-AXE7800 was one of the slowest routers, performing better only when there was little network congestion. In our first test, with no congestion, the router scored an average of 490 points. While this sounds impressive, other routers performed much better, such as the TP-Link Archer AXE75, which generated 682 points.
In our second test, the Asus RT-AXE7800 WiFi 6E router experienced wild swings in latency and packet loss. The router scored 300 points, which is lower than the performance of the Archer AXE75 and the Tenda RX27 Pro.
In our third test, with some congestion, we were able to push the RT-AXE7800 to its limits. Under these circumstances, the router was able to generate 556 points, but the Archer AXE75 performed even better, achieving 622 points.
In our final test, with even more congestion, the Asus RT-AXE7800 WiFi 6E router underperformed compared to the TP-Link Archer AXE75 and the Tenda RX27 Pro. The router was only able to generate 463 points, which is far lower than the 590 points generated by the TP-Link Archer AXE75.
