Final Fantasy 14's Dawntrail Expansion
Final Fantasy 14's next expansion was revealed at Fan Fest in Las Vegas, promising an exciting journey to the seas. The trailer showcased plenty of Chocobos and Y'shtola, along with a possible reference to a Final Fantasy 11 job. Let's delve into the details.
The trailer opens with a player character dressed as a pirate, overlooking the sea from a cliffside. Armed with a one-handed sword and accompanied by a chocobo, the scene resembles the opening of the previous expansion, Heavensward.
The player then mounts the chocobo, offering a breathtaking view of the sea and sky, before transitioning to a coastal location. Here, the player stands on a ship's deck, featuring a modern ship design. The trailer also hints at a job inspired by Final Fantasy 11, with the player wearing a red cloak and wielding a katana reminiscent of FF11's Samurai job.
The expansion is expected to focus on coastal locations and introduce dueling gods, aligning with the water and sea-based themes. The trailer also showcases a playful emote of a catboy enjoying a taco, which players can look forward to in future updates.
Dawntrail is set to release in Summer 2024, providing ample time for Square Enix to reveal more exciting details. The expansion will also come with a major graphical update to modernize the visuals, placing Final Fantasy 14 on par with the best-looking PC games.
With Dawntrail's release, we anticipate a resurgence in Final Fantasy 14's popularity, bringing forth an abundance of Lalafells, Highlanders, and Miqo'te in the game world.
While the trailer maintains a lighthearted tone, humorous expressions of concern over queue times experienced during the launch of Endwalker remind us that perfection may still be a work in progress in Eorzea.
