New Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs
The next generation of Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs will likely push more memory bandwidth, according to information shared by ASRock, which comes directly from the motherboard manufacturer. We already have some estimates about the performance of the new chips, which could see a boost of around 4% to 8% in single-core performance and 8% to 15% in multi-core performance. These increases are at least partly down to clock speed increases and power budget improvements, but there could also be an increase in core count.
The Intel 14th Gen CPUs are supposedly launching in October, but we might get more information at Intel’s Innovation event in September. We’ve already seen some leaked benchmarks for the i5-13600K, and it seems like a good choice right now, especially considering the i5-12600K is still among the Best CPUs for Gaming.
According to ASRock, the new 600-series motherboards will support the new CPUs via a BIOS update, even those with DDR4 memory support. The H610 motherboard owners can also expect compatibility with the new chips.
ASRock motherboards will receive badges indicating whether they have the latest BIOS to support the 14th Gen CPUs. Here’s the full list of badges:
We’ll be on hand to provide full coverage of the launch and evaluate if these new chips can make it to our Best CPUs for Gaming list. For now, the i5-13600K is probably our favorite, and we’ll be very interested to see if the presumed i5-14600K can take the crown.
The industry is gradually transitioning to DDR5 memory technology, which should provide a notable boost to overall system performance. Now that AMD is also embracing DDR5, we may see a greater emphasis on it from Intel too.
