I’ll regret sharing Lorcana with my kid

Sharing a Disney Lorcana card collection with my son has its challenges, but the memories we create are worth it.

Deciding to Share a Disney Lorcana Card Collection

Despite deciding to share a Disney Lorcana card collection with my ten-year-old son, I’m already regretting my decision – and I’m sure most collectors can relate. As a fan of Disney and collectables, I’m always on the lookout for a good deal, so when I noticed that the cards were on sale, I decided to buy some for my son and me to share.

Having spent much of his life playing the Yokai-Watch games that I enjoyed as a child, my son was instantly swayed by the shiny objects that accompanied the game, and asked for all the Yokai medals, figures, and plushies. Since I couldn’t play the games myself, I suggested that we save some money by sharing our card collection – but I never expected to regret it.

As a responsible parent, I know that young children can’t keep anything tidy, and I’m sure our card collection will end up on the floor. I’m also aware that my son isn’t the most careful person – just look at his Nintendo Switch buttons, which I’ve had to replace more than once.

I know I was the same when I was his age – I still regret not taking proper care of my PlayStation discs and Pokemon cards, despite having owned a Nintendo 64 and Game Boy. As someone who’s very nit-picky, I want to keep the cards pristine, but I’m already starting to worry that my son will make them look well-used in no time. I’ll have to set a ‘don’t take Lorcana cards to school’ rule, if the school doesn’t do it first.

I love the idea of a card collection, but I’m not a fan of signs of wear – it’s a sign that my collection isn’t complete. It doesn’t stop me from loving a game or series, but it does bother me when it’s a collectible. I’m sure I’ll have to accept that our collection won’t be perfect, but I’m still going to nitpick.

Despite my inner collector getting upset at the thought of creases and tears, I know that playing together and hunting down cards will create lasting memories – and that’s what matters.
