Mortal Kombat 1 Will Feature Gruesome Blood and Fatalities, but Fans Want Options

Creator Ed Boon says that he's open to the idea of a 'no gore' mode in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 game. However, there are concerns that removing the signature violence from the game might take away from its unique personality.

In a YouTube interview with Kinda Funny Games, Boon expresses uncertainty about the inclusion of a 'no gore' mode. He believes that the violence has always been an integral part of the Mortal Kombat franchise and fears that removing it would change the essence of the game.

Although Boon is open to considering the idea, he worries that the absence of fatalities would make the game feel less like a Mortal Kombat title. He states, 'I wouldn't say never - I'm open to it.'

Past Mortal Kombat games have incorporated a more toned-down approach for home console ports. However, with the advancements in next-gen graphics, this may no longer be sufficient for a clean port. Boon acknowledges that the terms of service play a role in shaping the game and mentions the possibility of removing blood and disabling fatalities to accommodate streamers.

Despite the inclusion of violence, Boon assures fans that Mortal Kombat 1 shouldn't face any issues with streaming platforms. He points out that Mortal Kombat X and 11 have been streamable without problems and expects the new game to follow suit.
