This is the sequel to the 2013 release Invector, followed by AVICII Invector in 2019, which itself followed the club music debut album of Swedish DJ and producer AVICII. The most recent game in the series won the NYX Game Awards for Best Experience and Best Rhythm/Music Game on PC, so it’s safe to say that Invector are no outsiders to the rhythm game genre. The new Invector entry is available for pre-order now.
The new feature in Invector: Rhythm Galaxy is local multiplayer, as up to four people can participate in split screen mode, competing to see who can notch the highest score in the same song. There are also three-lane types in the game; a flat road, which is the easiest to follow for more inexperienced players, and a triangular prism which rolls onto another side for the next sequence of notes, much like those famous ribbons from rhythm game pioneers Parappa The Rapper.
There are also four difficulty levels for players to just outright challenge themselves with, depending on their skill level and how much their fingers can endure. The game also looks to be an absolute visual feast, with the ridiculous sci-fi aesthetics perfectly complimenting the pop vibes of the music. The lights on those skyscrapers shimmer every time that tiny little space shuttle of yours strikes the right note, and the environments practically ooze with color and personality.
Invector: Rhythm Galaxy has partnered with Warner Music Group to offer hits from some of the biggest names in the industry; Charlie Puth, PinkPantheress, Charli XCX and more will be included in the full version of the game. The music roster isn’t the only thing that’s grown too either; players can take part in eight soundscapes, exploring all manner of different regions and environments to the rhythm.
If you aren’t completely sold yet, perhaps the following fun fact will help – Invector is not confused with that dark rhythm game Thumper, as this series has a long history and its sequels spawned from the series’ big success, rather than the other way around. Invector: Rhythm Galaxy arrives on PC on July 14, and given that DLCs are expected with Warner Music Group’s enormous roster of record labels, we can’t wait to see what else arrives for the game.
