Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2
The first Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl was a fun, if simple, fighting game. But with the sequel, developer Ludosity and Fair Play Labs have revealed that every character on the roster has undergone significant changes to their movesets, while retaining some iconic moves. It’s a significant improvement, and one that should please both players of the first Brawl and newcomers alike.
Announced yesterday but with gameplay footage debuting today, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 promises significant improvements over its predecessor. The first game was developed in a relatively short amount of time, with Fair Play Labs (developers of the original Brawl) developing the game alongside Ludosity, who published the first game.
Now, Ludosity has taken the reins and developed the sequel, with Fair Play Labs still involved as consultants. The gameplay trailer, which you can watch below, shows off some of the new mechanics, with each returning character undergoing changes to their movesets.
“Our goal with every character was to respect their original moveset while also making sure they feel fresh and have new options,” lead gameplay and character designer Leo Argüello reveals on Twitter. “Every character has new moves AND old moves, with some moves being swapped for new moves.”
The official website also mentions new playstyles and abilities for the characters, something that’s easy to see in the game’s reveal trailer. SpongeBob, for example, has a new ground combo, while Patrick now has a move that involves slamming his rock. Other characters have undergone more significant changes, with Danny Phantom and Nigel Thornberry both looking a lot different than in the first game.
The first game’s special moves seem to be mostly staying the same, though this could change as gameplay footage of other characters is revealed. You can see a few examples of reworked movesets in the gameplay trailer, below:
In addition to reworked movesets, however, new mechanics have been confirmed. The official website confirms that there is now a special meter for “super abilities,” alongside new offensive and defensive options. The full extent of these mechanics will be revealed at EVO next month, but they certainly sound like a big step up from the original game.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is set to release for PC later this year. You can check out the official website here.
