Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 Trailer Reveals More Content

A Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 trailer has arrived, and it’s surprisingly more than just a logo reveal. The quick video shows off new characters, additional stages, revamped existing stages, a new campaign mode, and more.

The surprise announcement comes in the wake of the success of the original, which debuted to strong reviews but then suffered from player drop-off due to a lack of content. This quick turnaround suggests that developer Gameloft has listened to those concerns and is aiming to address them with this Sequel.

The original game was criticised for its lack of content, with a strong fighting core but little structure to the experience. Hopefully, this iterative sequel will address those concerns – and if it does, it could be a big win for the genre as a whole.

In the trailer, we see that crossplay is present on all platforms, and that new Supers are being introduced, similar to the Smash Bros. equivalent of ultimate attacks. We’re also getting some new characters, like Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants.

There’s also a strong hint that the Nickelodeon Multiverse will be returning, with the teaser ending on a shot of some iconic ’90s characters standing in a typical ’90s suburban neighbourhood. The singleplayer campaign will apparently focus on stopping Vlad Plasmius from taking over the Nickelodeon universe, so expect a lot of cameos.

Overall, this announcement is very positive – and again, it’s significant that it comes in the wake of Warner Bros.’ withdrawal from the Multiversus project. There are still concerns around player drop-off with the original, but an iterative sequel with a strong core game and more robust structure will likely address that.

The game’s quick turnaround is notable in and of itself – the original game came out two years ago, and we’re now two years into that. Typically, fighting games take years between iterations, with the exception of the very biggest titles like Street Fighter and Tekken.

The original game was also very well-received, earning an 8/10 from us in our review.
