Cherry MX Experience Box
Cherry, the German computer input devices and keyswitch maker, has launched two new product lines. First up, there’s the Cherry MX Experience Box, a presentation box containing one of each of the firm’s full-size switches. Then there’s the Cherry MX Switch Kit, featuring 23 single-variety switches in a box designed for customizing and building keyboard projects.
The Cherry MX Experience Box contains ten types of full-sized Cherry MX switches, including MX RGB Red, MX RGB Speed Silver, MX RGB Silent Red, and more. It’s designed to give you a hands-on feel for the switches, and comes with a guide to the various switch specifications and characteristics. It’s priced at €9.99, which may translate to around $9.99.
One concern about the Cherry MX Experience Box is its durability. The box itself is nice enough, but the packaging is a single molded piece of plastic, and I don’t think it’ll withstand repeated handling. I’d be worried about the switches rattling about inside.
Cherry MX Switch Kit
The Cherry MX Switch Kit, meanwhile, is designed for customizing and building keyboard projects. It includes a flavors guide inside the lid, detailing the selected switch. Each Cherry MX Switch Kit contains 23 switches of the single variety indicated, and is priced at €14.99 to €19.99 (around $14.99 to $19.99).

Again, the reasoning behind the choice of 23 switches in each kit is not mentioned in Cherry’s product pages or press releases. I can’t imagine it’s based on demand, as 23 switches seems like a lot to me, but perhaps Cherry has done some research into this and comes to a different conclusion.
