The Gigabyte G5 KF Gaming Laptop

The Gigabyte G5 KF gaming laptop is available for under $900, and it manages to pack quite the punch at this affordable price point. This entry-level gaming laptop is a solid choice for gamers who want to play at 1080p resolution, and it's one of the cheapest laptops to feature the Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU.

I've spent the last few weeks using the Gigabyte G5 as my go-to travel companion, and I have a lot to say about it. But first, let's take a look at the specs:

Gigabyte G5 KF Specs

  • 15.6-inch display with a 144Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals.
  • 512GB SSD storage (upgradable) and the option to add a 1TB hard drive for more space.
  • 8GB DDR4 memory (upgradable), but the 12th Gen Intel CPU and Nvidia GeForce GPU are more than capable of handling most games without an upgrade.

Gigabyte G5 KF Gaming Performance

The Gigabyte G5 KF has been a blast to use as my main gaming laptop. It's surprisingly capable of running modern games, such as Rainbow Six: Vegas, The Division 2, and Far Cry 5, at native 1080p resolution with impressive frame rates. The RTX 4060 GPU may not push the graphics settings to ultra, but it delivers a smooth gaming experience.

Playing Rainbow Six: Vegas on the 'normal' difficulty setting is a joy on the Gigabyte G5 KF. I even cranked it up to 'insane' for a bit, and the laptop handled it without a hitch. Although playing on 'insane' may lower the FPS slightly, it remains a smooth experience overall.

The performance of the Gigabyte G5 KF at its current price point makes it an attractive option. It handles modern games at 1080p resolution without breaking a sweat, and that's what matters most.

Should You Buy the Gigabyte G5 KF?

The Gigabyte G5 KF is priced at $899 on Newegg, offering great value for the price. Keep in mind that it's not a powerhouse, and you may want to upgrade the memory for optimal performance. For budget-conscious PC gamers, the Gigabyte G5 KF is a cost-effective alternative to a custom gaming desktop.

If you're on the fence about the Gigabyte G5 KF, you may also want to consider our MSI Katana review. The Katana is another cheap gaming laptop, albeit with a slightly less powerful CPU and GPU. It comes with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, compared to the Gigabyte's 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD.

With a $170 discount, the MSI Katana is priced at $1,029. While it's a bit more expensive, the model with 512GB of SSD storage provides a smoother experience in the long run.
